Everest trek with peak climb

A view of Lobuche peak
As time is drawing faster to an end to our chapter in South Korea, our plans are starting to come to a more solid fruition. Explorations leaves South Korea in February 2013 and as some of you know, our first stop is India. We'll spend 2 months stomping around India. Starting from Chennai we head down and around the cape. Then we head up into the desert, through central India and east toward Nepal where we'll possibly walk across into Nepal. At which point, it'll be some epic outdoor travelling adventure!

This Nepal trip is decked out to the max. We'll be doing a himalayan tour with a trek up to EBC (Everest Base Camp) and then a push to an altitude of 6,100 meters. To give you an idea, EBC is approximately 5,700 meters and planes fly at approximately 9,100 meters. The peak we're climbing is clocked at 6,100 meters. We'll be heading up to the Eastern Summit, via the Southern Ridge.

This will be the first time Explorations visits Nepal, and it would probably not be the last. As such, being first timers breaking the Nepal v-card, we hired a porter and guide to help us learn the ropes. We went with Travel Ways as recommended by a veteran in the whole Nepal hiking/climbing experience, whom we also climb with in Korea. We were placed in contact with Pema Sherpa. Explorations has been in contact with him for awhile now, hacking out logistics, travel plans, and gear.

Lobuche Peak East Summit
One of our good friends, Tom, whom we also climb with in Korea has just recently returned from a trip with Pema Sherpa and had a blast! We can't wait to do this! The peak climbing videos we've seen does not look anything fun. Altitude sickness with your heart rate beating at 5 millions miles per hour trying to suck up as much oxygen as you can, while you're laying in bed trying to sleep; wake up at 4am and strapping on frozen crampons in negative degree weather; and trudging along snow as we hike up into the sunrise to hit the peak. Sounds like an awesome vacation plan!

At the end of it all, we're hoping to achieve a huge sense of accomplishment fighting against the cold, the altitude, the wind and our selves. Character building to the max. We got this!

Our trip starts beginning of May, 2013 from Kathmandu. Check out the proposed trekking route below! If you can't see the route, zoom out a bit and look for the blue placement markers.
